Colorful bedroom ideas: 10 favorite schemes chosen by experts

gorgeous bedroom design

For a contemporary addition, swap some of your black elements for a dark charcoal, and add a bit of texture to them too. This bedroom by interior designer and architect Jeffrey Dungan is full of rich texture and pattern yet still remains neutral and calming. If you want to introduce more warmth and texture to your space, consider a wood ceiling.

The Patterned Bedroom

The mudcloth pattern on the duvet cover blends seamlessly with the woodblock stamp motif on the Euro shams. While you can fill an entire bedroom with your most personal nicknacks, keeping your most precious mementos contained will help your space feel cool and collected. If there’s one item that separates the bedroom from every other room, it’s the bed.

Simple bedroom ideas: 10 pared-back sleep spaces where less is more

Dominique DeLaney cleverly gave the classic blue-and-white color scheme a twist by incorporating multiple textures, from the walls to the bed. Looking for a foolproof way to bring pattern, color, and texture into your design? And while you can go wall-to-wall with the right print, even a simple statement wall keeps busy patterns in check. A prime example is the bedroom above by interior designer Natalie Papier.

Warm Hues

The home had to be placed on a cliffside, and there was also a lack of space and odd dimensions to deal with. To deal with these issues, the studio installed a new ducted ventilation and air-conditioning system, which conceals the electrical systems and a water supply in the cargo hold. The furniture was specially custom-designed to perfectly fit into the space’s curved walls. The studio mitigated the limited space through the use of natural wood, light tones, and concrete textures.

The traditional spindle bed frame helps ground the space and adds a little depth. Designer Elizabeth Hay embraces the unique millwork in this bedroom by playing up the farmhouse whimsy with tons of patterns and color. “We used a lot of wallpapers in the bedrooms to make them feel cozy and add color and pattern without making any structural changes,” says Hay. Just ask Matthew Harris, who incorporated oak paneling into the primary bedroom of his Lisbon apartment, topping it off with an opulent Gubi pendant. Further enhance the outdoor-indoor connection by allowing natural light to flood the space through large windows or skylights. House plants are the most organic of all the bedroom decorating ideas out there and they are such a great way to add calming or vibrant colors to your bedroom space.

Bedlinen and throws in soft, muted colours ensure the wallhanging has maximum impact. When it comes to your bedroom wall colour, deep blues have always had a confident yet calm authority. This blue bedroom is balanced with the white ceiling and lampshade, plus the white chest of drawers with brass knobs which add a stylish touch. Take a look at these beautiful bedrooms with stylish colour and pattern combinations, gorgeous furniture ideas and clever finishing touches. These bedroom decor ideas will give you all the inspiration you need... We know we've told you this before, but a gallery wall, like this one from William Hunter Collective, is an easy way to show off your personality and style, even in the bedroom.

After all, the space needs to be comfy and livable over anything else. If you lack square footage, the best small bedroom ideas will maximize your space from corner to corner. Instead of focusing on your horizontal footprint, consider ways to enhance your space vertically. Anything from floor-to-ceiling storage and low-slung beds can work together to create an airy, spacious bedroom. It can feel risky enough picking one bold pattern for your bedroom. But if you select the right materials and pair them with a subtle background, you can create a layered space that’s both interesting and soothing.

Be Smart With Rug Size

At first glance, the mirror above this bed might resemble the sun, but upon closer inspection you can see it actually looks like coral. Sure, it could also look like gilded twigs, but in the context of this Florida home by Doniphan Moore, you can see the coastal vision. Summer Thornton selected a hammered metal bed with a modern Greek key detail by Bunny Williams Home. Patterns can be difficult to mix and match but stripes are essentially fail-proof. Sarah Fultz Interiors mixes a tightly lined lumbar pillow with an easygoing striped throw for an easy-to-imitate combination.

A modern chandelier suspended above the freestanding bath helps to define the bathing zone. At her Gramercy Park apartment in New York, designer Cece Barfield Thompson's bed is skirted in a printed floral linen (Lisa Fine Textiles) and draped with sheer panels (Clarence House). To make the monochrome bedroom look more luxurious, Thompson added floor-to-ceiling drapes not only on the windows but behind the bed, too.

Follow designer Emily Henderson's lead and mix in some color to your space in the form of textiles or furniture. Though you may never want to hear the word "shiplap" again, we're here to tell you that wood accent walls are still very cool. Take a cue from Light & Dwell and modernize shiplap with earthy tones and rustic textures. In this example, Home By Polly added leaning art, a crystal, and some dried pampas grass to her night table for a personalized touch. For the designer, New York’s Shawn Henderson, the interior’s overall simplicity, along with a smart mix of texture and furniture in an array of tones, completes the picture.

Designed to reflect the striking rawness of the ocean and dunes that surround it, this Florida beach house is naturally stunning. The greys of the surf and the beiges of sand are repeated in the hues of the linen, the wood of vintage tables and an imposing black bed jump out from the natural textures and elegant cream hues around it. 'For example, place accent lighting at your bedside, so you don’t need to get up from bed to turn out the lights. Some people skip the bedside table lamps for wall sconces, or even small pendant lights for an industrial look. You should also have task lighting at any desk or vanity in your bedroom,' she adds. To help inspire a bedroom scheme where restraint reigns, we have asked the experts for their top simple bedroom ideas, and found a selection of elegant rooms that embrace the simple life.

Menu for Schaefer's Canal House in Chesapeake City, MD

schaefer's canal house maryland

Will be using the Marina on my return trip. Free docks on opposite shore were silted in. One is exposed to canal but very little canal traffic.

Dinner,

My only complaint has nothing to do with the marina. The restaurant has gone downhill. My guess is they have a new chef. It was prime rib ordered medium rare and arrived medium well. Then got chicken parmigiana.

Happy hour food,

(Olivia Marro, Leah Stubbs, Scott Seisler) Schaefer's is without question your #1 way point when transiting the C&D Canal. Staff was great - and knowledgeable of local conditions and setting lines for the 3+ foot tide swings. Restaurant next to dock was excellent.

Public Cruise Times

Tied up quickly and securely. Very helpful tie up assistance. Great help from Dockmaster and dockhand. The Army Corp had actually closed the C&D Canal due to fog. I contacted the Dockmaster and he called me when the Canal was open to traffic.

Very friendly and competent Dock Master, Steve, guided us right into fuel dock and then around to out spot on the bulkhead. Despite passing ships, there was very little rocking from wakes. Restaurant was good and steps from the boat. The dock hands were excellent. Got tied up quickly and efficiently in the current.

Enjoyed the bike trail and restaurant accommodations. Marina Staff are great but tug and barge traffic very challenging. Sign up to receive news, updates and exclusive offers direct to your inbox. Yes, Schaefer's Canal House has a kids menu, view their kids menu on Sirved.

Dinner reservations recommended,

Good food & drink, with easy access. We docked right along-side parallel to the canal. Easy access to water hose and electric hookup. The only draw-back is that there are no showers. Even a cold water outside rinse off shower would have been nice.

schaefer's canal house maryland

Note that the dock has no cleats to which you can tie, you'll need to throw a clove hitch or something around the pilings. The dock hands are quite good about helping with line handling. Steven the Dock Master was amazing. He's very knowledgeable and even washed the water marks and filled our fenders when we got fuel. Passed out leaflets with all kind of info.

Vegetarian options,

Current and pilings made for a rough night. The restaurant was lively and the food was good. As to the accommodations there is a substantial amount of current through the marina and the tidal change is roughly 3’.

And many a loud speed boat takes advantage of the good fuel prices here. But the people are friendly and the area peaceful, with the restaurant offering decent food and beverage options. Overall a nice one night stop. Be prepared and time your canal transit and docking based on tides. Check AIS for commercial traffic before departing the dock.

There aren't any showers, but I didn't find that to be an issue. We had a really good experience here. The staff was super friendly and helpful and really went out of their way for us. The restaurant was great and you are a short dinghy ride to town on the other side of the canal. No showers, laundry or grocery nearby.

And cracking jokes the whole time. We never encountered such a helpful friendly and funny dockside assistance Restaurant was very good along with the staff. And fun watching all the canal traffic. Definitely would come back.

Nice people and the dock hands do a great job. I recommend using this marina when passing thru the C & D Canal. On our way from Cape May to Baltimore.

Schaefer's Canal House Chesapeake City, Maryland Chesapeake Bay Marina

schaefer's canal house maryland

Tied-up just east of bridge but never noticed bridge noise above our heater-fans noise. Dock guy, Steve, carefully made sure we were tied with long spring lines to handle the tide. After a long run up the Chesapeake with foul current all day, we arrived at sunset.

Vegetarian options,

schaefer's canal house maryland

With the marina only offering pilings that makes it tough to position bumpers for cushioning as the shifting current bounces the boat around. Lots of knocking throughout the night. If you’re looking for a fun spot to grab a bite and drink this is the place. If looking for a quiet night of sleep it’s not the best. This is a really nice joint.

Menu for Schaefer's Canal House in Chesapeake City, MD

This is a good location to stop in preparation to head down the C&D canal, and Delaware River. I believe this is the only marina in Chesapeake City that has fuel. Since the main dockage is along a fixed dock it's fairly easy to pull up and the dockmaster is very helpful and friendly. I ate at the restaurant (nothing else around) the food is good.

Wheelchair accessible parking lot,

Liked it so much we stayed a second night. Quaint town and very nice restaurant. Steve and his team provide an excellent experience. The location is great and we got to see the swapping of pilots on a vehicle carrier ship right from our boat.

Chesapeake City, MD 21915

Read on for the details and keep this scenic restaurant in mind for a dining experience to remember. Tom the Dockmaster was very friendly and helpful. He guided us in to our spot over the radio and took our lines on arrival. Lively place with live music over the weekend. Very helpful & professional, well versed in the challenges of their current. Excellent hours for transients if trying to stretch your day. Nice casual restaurant on site.

Kids menu,

Good basic marina with a really good restaurant. If you are picky the noise from vehicles on the bridge might bother you. I had a cold beer and thought of the sounds as a funky reggae beat. Great location midpoint on the C&D canal. The staff was incredibly helpful when docking and getting advice on transiting the canal and out the the Delaware Bay. The restaurant is very good and the area is clean and well maintained.

schaefer's canal house maryland

Wheelchair accessible elevator,

Also a great walking and bike path if you're looking for a place to stretch your legs. A very convenient stop along the way. The person that helped us dock was excellent!

We were docked at a long fixed dock alongside the canal and the restaurant. Wakes from passing boats were not bad even on a weekend. A little noisier than most places due to the bridge traffic and the restaurant but not bad.

Dinner,

The docks and power were very new and more than adequate. Dock hands were very helpful ,especially with their current and friendly. Steve, the Dockmaster, went out of his way to make sure we had a great stay. We will definitely stop here again. Nice for a quick stop especially with the shoaling at the entrance to the Anchorage across the canal. The owner and his son were polite and the facility was a perfect stopover.

Much enjoyed the large bar/restaurant - good food and service. This is a restaurant with a dock that accepts transients, not a true marina. Note that they have fuel (gas and diesel), but no other amenities for transients (no pump-out/showers/laundry/after-hours toilets etc.). Those would be welcome additions that could lead to longer stays. Dealing with the currents in the canal and the huge concrete Chesapeake City Bridge support in the middle of the dock can be quite a challenge.

Nice location with the restaurant and the dockmaster hours were very convenient for our 5p arrival. Only suggestion is to add showers to the facility. Please provide your ETA, if you will be needing fuel, and direction of approach in the Notes section at checkout. Note that the marina has both fixed and floating docks on site, however the floating docks do not offer shore power. A band was playing, dinner was being served along the docks, and after a quick shower on board, dinner on the dock was fantastic!

Sirved does not guarantee prices or the availability of menu items. If you have tried the above and still do not see availability, the marina may be full for your dates or unable to accommodate your vessel size. Use our search bar to find nearby marinas or private listings. Dock crew were very accommodating.

Once you see the following photos, you’ll want to head to this scenic and historic restaurant asap. It’s the definition of dinner with a view. Schaefer's Canal House menu has been digitised by Sirved. The menu for Schaefer's Canal House may have changed since the last user update.

Thanks to a welcoming front porch, spacious rear screened porch, and dutch doors off the primary bedroom, there are plenty of spaces to enjoy the fresh air. Most one-story house plans do not have an elevator simply because they don’t need it. However, there aresome designs where an elevator is necessary for accessibility purposes. As you design your home gym in your one-story home, think about the floors and walls. You can selecthardwood floors, mirrored walls, vaulted ceilings, and reinforced walls for fitted workout equipment. And, finally, you can includeamenities like a library, home gym, or elevator. Fit for any stage of life, the 2,418-square-foot home is designed with comfort in mind from a deep wraparound porch that ends with a screened-in option and sprawling interior layout. It's ideal for retirement complete with a spacious primary suite with two sinks and closets, a large bathtub, and direct access to the screened porch. Popular in the 1950s, one-story house plans were designed and built during the post-war availability of cheap land and sprawling suburbs. During the 1970s, as incomes, family size, and an increased interest in leisure activities rose, the single-story home fell out of favor. However, as most cycles go, the one-story house is on the rise again (no pun intended).

Some designs may include a bonus over the garage or have a finished basement, but the majority of one-story house plans spread all of their square footage across a single floor plan. Single level homes don't mean skimping on comfort or style when it comes to square footage. Our Southern Living house plans collection offers one-story plans that range from under 500 to nearly 3,000 square feet. From open concept with multifunctional spaces to closed-floor-plans with traditional foyers and dining rooms, these plans do it all. One of the most popular one-story house plans is the Ranch house plan, which appears in many variations and can be customized for varying lot sizes.
